Celebrating 38 Years in Operation

This year marks the 38th year since Hopkinsons began their passenger transport company. The Australian owned family business is now being operated by the second generation.

Our beginnings

Graham and Thelma Hopkinson acquired Merrylands bus service in 1978, which was established by the Try family in 1923. The bus service was relocated to the Woodpark Road, Smithfield premises which we continue to operate from today. In total, the original bus service has clocked up 90 years of continual operation.

For the love of travel

Originally a builder, Graham was bitten by the coach bug soon after purchasing the bus company, procuring several coaches to add to his growing transport company. It was a labour of love for the couple, both sharing an affinity with travel and bringing people together.

Subsequently, the charters division grew from this passion and now includes an impressive fleet of five star coaches and modern air-conditioned buses.

A Family Affair – Second Generation

With the passing of Graham in 2011, Hopkinsons then came under the stewardship of the second generation. The four Hopinsons daughters; Kaye, Jennifer, Julie and Michelle, stepped up into the management and the operations of Hopkinsons group of companies in 2011, with Michelle’s position as managing director. They attribute the company’s success to their parents’ commitment in making long lasting relationships within the industry and securing dedicated and skilled staff, some of whom are still with Hopkinsons today. In March 2015 the company was sold to Kiama Coachlines Pty Ltd, yet continue to operate with the values and vision that Graham and Thelma were known for, which is central to the management and teams approach today.
